TBT: Aerial Photography

Last year around this time, I was traveling quite a bit between Los Angeles and Austin. My family made several trips exploring Austin, trying to figure out if this was the city for us. Eventually, we made a few house hunting trips. Finally, once we had officially moved, we flew back to Los Angeles on last time for my cousin’s wedding.

I get very nervous when I fly. It’s not a fear of crashing, but more of a claustrophobia driven anxiety. I mean, what happens if I have to get off the plane? I don’t know why I would need to, but the fact that I CANT get off and I’m TRAPPED up there is enough to send me off the deep end.

Luckily, I’ve found that taking photos out the window calms me. It focuses my mind on something other than my discomfort.

Air Travel

I just love taking photos out the airplane window…
The last few are from the Grapevine in southern California.

Traveling to Los Angeles

It has been OVER A MONTH since I last posted a real blog post. Ugh. With the new year coming up, I’m tempted to create a blogging related resolution. As you know, I take my New Year’s Resolutions very seriously. Between work and school (and my man!), I’ve been pretty busy. When I have a day off, I usually just want to lay around! I’m thinking about setting a goal to blog once a week. That’s not as much as I used to blog, but it’s more than I do now (which is basically never). I’d also like to spend more time on my blogs. If I knew what I wanted to feature each week, I could start it early and edit it several times before publishing.

Anyway… I’m in Los Angeles right now! It’s the first time I’ve been back since we moved into our new home in Austin. I usually hate flying, but this trip I was surprisingly calm. I played some Plants vs. Zombies, listened to the Stuff You Should Know podcast, and of course, took some photos out the window.

Back from Austin!

I’m back! I spent last week in Austin, TX, and wow, it was wonderful. I didn’t bring my laptop (gasp), but I did take a bunch of photos. Hope you enjoy the following Austin-themed blogs!

I get super nervous when I fly. It’s not that I’m afraid the plane will crash – it’s more of a claustrophobia thing. In order to calm my mind and focus on something other than the fact that there is absolutely nothing I could do to get off the plane, no matter how much I wanted to, I take photos out the window. Now that I use VSCOcam most of the time, I can even edit photos on the plane too! It’s a wonderful distraction from my uncomfortable panicking.

First, I edited all the photos using my go-to preset: F2. I usually enjoy the faded look, but it wasn’t quite working for these high elevation photos. I decided to try black and white, using B5, and I think they turned out much better.
