Juice | Served Here

Living in Los Angeles, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Last weekend, It was time – I had my first juicing experience. While walking in old town Pasadena farmers market (how hipster am I?!), I came across Juice | Served Here. The shop is very cool, modern, and clean. Even their website is trendy, with photos that look straight off the Tumblr popular pages. I absolutely love the design of everything! Once in the shop though, I was way out of my element, staring wide-eyed at the menu board (which is probably why I didn’t take any photos of the inside of the shop). The woman working was very nice. I told her it was my first time there and she explained everything to me.

I decided to go with a ‘green drink,’ because that’s what I think of when I think of juicing. I got the J3, Joan’s Greens, with apple, celery, spinach, romaine, kale, parsley, lemon, and ginger. Honestly? Not my cup of tea. However, I did feel a huge sense of accomplishment once I’d finished the whole bottle! I’m not saying the drink quality wasn’t good – I’m sure it was excellent – but it just wasn’t for me.

What was also hard for me to swallow was the price. $10 a bottle? Again, this is where my juicing knowledge is lacking. After walking around a while, I started to think – maybe $10 sounds right, because this is supposed to replace a meal. So $10 for a meal is right. But how can a 90 calorie drink, with 3 grams of protein and 1 gram of fiber be a meal? That then takes me to the juicing cleanse. Again, my juicing knowledge fails me. Juice | Served Here offers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 day cleanses. They even have a juice cart that will deliver to your door (as long as you buy 8 or more drinks)! Angelenos swear by the juice cleanse, but it’s kind of lost on me. Right now, my favorite part of my first juicing experience is getting to keep the wonderful glass milk bottle it came in.

If any juice fans (or juice bar employees) out there would like to help me understand the benefits of juicing, how the cleanse works, and if it’s worth the cost, I would LOVE to hear what you have to say. Also, my brother has been drinking mushroom juice… should I try that next?

  1. Thanks for posting this! I’ve always wondered how a “juice cleanse” can actually make you feel good if all it is is about 90-100ish calories, but I always wanted to try a bottle just for the heck of it.

    • You’re welcome! Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. Try a bottle and let me know what you think! Hopefully someone out there will explain how a juice cleanse works to us.
